Creating a Caregivers Referral Network

Westport Cooperative Services, a SHIP sponsor site in Missouri, created a Medicare 101 manual and conducts several community workshops each year for caregivers and seniors. These trainings provide attendees with a basic overview of what coverage is entitled to beneficiaries through Medicare, and the manual called Accessing the Care in Medicare: A Guide for Kansas City Caregivers contains actual case studies to illustration coverage challenges and how they might be remedied.

These workshops are an opportunity to empower caregivers and seniors with information about a complicated program and describe the SHIP as a resource if situations arise that require additional support and assistance.
