SHIP to SHIP:
"Activating" Your Volunteers
HAP Conference Call
Wednesday, February 20, 2008
3:00 PM ET
Across the country SHIPs depend on volunteers to perform many duties from counseling to administrative tasks. By expanding the roles volunteers can have in SHIPs, more people can be reached, more beneficiaries can be served, and more assistance can be provided.
Categorizing volunteers and collecting and tabulating data on their work for the SHIP Resource Report is a challenge we have heard from SHIPs across the network. There is also wide variation in interpreting Section 1 of the Resource Report, which requests specific information on "active counselors," not "active volunteers."
This call will provide an opportunity for SHIPs to share stories and discuss solutions to the following issues:
- How do you define an "active volunteer"?
- How much training do you require for volunteers?
- Do you require different levels of training for different volunteer roles?
- How do you account for non-counselor volunteers on the SHIP Resource Report?
The objective of this conference call is to gain an understanding about how differing roles of volunteers can change a SHIP's needs with regard to training and reporting.
